Opera has announced that it will be featuring an Ethereum wallet in its web browsing software, desktop version. Bitmain, which is a Bitcoin miner backs the opera web browser.

Opera To Feature Ethereum Wallet In PC Browser

Opera made this development public on Wednesday, saying that there has been a lot of interest in its mobile browser’s private beta, which has been improved to include an inbuilt Ethereum wallet. This wallet will support tokens based on Ether and Ethereum and will allow users on both the mobile and PC devices to access similar crypto wallets.

Opera Crypto’s product lead, Charles Hamel, has said that the direct addition of the wallet to the browser has enabled it to get rid of the need for complex extensions and separate apps. He added that Opera’s move to include crypto in the PC browser is an indication of its commitment towards pushing cryptocurrencies and Web 3.0 into the mainstream.

In order for one to gain access to the wallet in Opera’s desktop browser, the mobile browser will first have to be downloaded on an Android device. The native cryptocurrency wallet will also have to be enabled. After this steps have been completed, they will be able to connect to their native crypto wallet to the PC browser via scanning the QR code. Apart from storing tokens, the wallet also doubles up as a dApp (decentralized application) browser. Asa dApp, the wallet allows one to connect with other dApps without the need to download extensions.

Keys To Remain In User’s Mobile Device

All payments will, however, have to be signed in via the user’s phone as the keys to the wallet will still be stored there, this will also include payments which have been made using the PC browser. The payments will be signed through fingerprints wipe.

Krystian Kolondra, who is the EVP of the browsers division, said that the company was looking for a solution for PC users after making it easier for crypto payment to be carried out on mobile devices. He added that the company decided simply to give PC users access to the technology of the mobile crypto wallet.

Hamel added that this desktop wallet will enable those who prefer using their PCs for crypto payments and accessing dApps to do so in a simple fashion by using the same wallet that is on their phones.

Bitmain Buys Controlling Interest In Opera

This move comes in the wake of Bitmain, the largest Bitcoin miner in the crypto industry, buying the controlling stake at Opera for $50 million. Opera enjoys a wide user presence in Africa on account of its fintech subsidiaries and browser. A week after the purchase of the controlling shares, Opera made the announcement that a native Ethereum wallet would be added on to its mobile browser, android version.

Kolondra has said that Opera is now looking towards making crypto-integration mainstream adding that as a company that prides itself on being at the forefront of innovation, Opera believes Blockchain technology will positively transform the web.
